Good evening kossacks. I'm just back from the volunteering for the Head of the Charles Regatta. I got up at 4:30 this morning to get to my station on time. And then I stood around in the cold from 7:00 until 6:00 tonight. I had 3 layers on the bottom and 5 layers on top, 2 sets of gloves, a hat, and 2 sets of socks. Unfortunately I was stationed under the trees right on the river. So I have been chilled to the bone all day.
WYFP is our community's Saturday evening gathering to talk about our problems, empathize with one another, and share advice, pootie pictures, favorite adult beverages, and anything else that we think might help. Everyone and all sorts of troubles are welcome. May we find peace and healing here.
Won't you please share the joy of WYFP by recommending? And do be generous with your mojo!
My job was to direct boat traffic with my megaphone. Most of it went very well but some of it was really annoying. The situation that bothered me the most was when I was trying to get an 8 to slow down because there were two singles in front of them. The cox started yelling at me that he had the right of way since they were an 8. The rules are single file downstream to the start of the course. 3 years ago an 8 impaled a rower in a single. It was a miracle that he survived. So I wasn't going to stand for that. I yelled to the cox that I if he didn't back off then I would notify the umpires. He was such an arrogant shit.
I was stationed right at the end of one turn and just before the tight hairpin turn. If boats didn't hug the shore then they ended up in the course at the hairpin turn. We did end up with at least one rower in the water and multiple close calls.
I thought I'd signed up for an 8 hour shift but ended up with an 11 hour shift. I didn't have time to edit the diary I was working on. Sorry! I thought I would be home hours ago.
So what are your gripes tonight?
